Stainless steel braided brake lines have some distinct advantages over the original lines on your xB. A more precise inner liner is utilized to flow fluid out to the brakes, this liner is wrapped in a finely woven stainless steel wire which is the braid you see. The stainless steel braid besides looking incredibly cool serves a couple of functions; it minimizes line expansion under braking pressure resulting in a firmer feeling brake pedal the steel braids also protect the line from damage that could be caused from road debris. A transparent flexible coating is laid over the wire braid sealing it off from the outside world and potential contaminants, this coating also makes cleanup a breeze!
